Snow Falling on Cedars, by David Guterson
Challenge: A book with weather in the title
Rating: 4.5/5
Review: David Guterson wrote the foreward for the book I just read – Wintergreen – so it is fortuitous, or something, that this book came in at the library immediately following. I’ve always heard this was a good book, and it’s been on my list for a while, so I’m glad I could work it in! It was also a misty, lovely portrait of the PNW, specifically the islands between Washington and Canada. The author also put a great deal of research into the local effect of WWII on the island communities and their Japanese residents. He deftly wove mystery, rural life, prejudice, war, love, and inclement weather into a page-turner of a book. Another one I recommend!
